Probus Club of West Auckland Celebrates its 25th anniversary
20.04.10 The Probus Club of West Auckland was chartered 25 years ago by the Rotary Club of Henderson. Since then other clubs have have been formed, mostly double gender Clubs. The West Auckland Club is an all male Club filling a gap for many retired men wishing to meet others of similar interests and age.

Probus clubs serve a growing population of retired leaders. They have no formal ties to Rotary International. But Probus clubs comprise the fastest-growing Rotary club-sponsored organization today, attracting a burgeoning population of retired and semi-retired business, trade and professional people.

The first Probus club was formed by an English Rotary Club in the mid-1960's to allow retired people to meet together for fellowship. The idea spread to other countries. Today, Probus clubs claim more than 300,000 members in thousands of clubs worldwide, the largest concentrations being in Great Britain, Australia, and New Zealand.
Although sponsored by Rotary clubs, Probus clubs enjoy autonomy once they have been established. Clubs meet monthly but have no attendance or service requirements, and membership fees are nominal. Members may and do belong to other organisations and other Probus Clubs. Some men join an all male Probus Club and a mixed Probus Club, while their partner joins an all female club and the same mixed club.

The mens Probus Club of West Auckland meets the first Friday of each month at the Kelston Community Centre. The meeting starts at 9.45am with a small business session and mini speaker followed by morning tea. The meeting concludes with a main speaker. The meeting ends by 12 noon. The cost is $30.00 per annum with no extra charges. The club is totally social with no pressure to be involved in any activity outside of the meeting. The club does organise inexpensive outings and the occasional social meal. If you are interested in joining the Club just turn up and make yourself known.
